Cayuga Community College is launching a new micro-credential, offering short-term courses to prepare students for careers in advanced manufacturing.
The Machining Fundamentals Microcredential emphasizes machining, CNC technologies, and hands-on learning to prepare students for entry-level positions in the manufacturing industry. The micro-credential certifies a student’s training, thus making them more attractive to potential employers.
“The Machining Fundamentals Microcredential is an innovative new option for students that offers them a quick pathway to access the training they need to start or advance their manufacturing career,” said Director of Community Education and Workforce Development Emily Cameron. “By completing courses taught by industry professionals, students will have the fundamental training to find entry-level positions in our region’s growing manufacturing industry.”
Students will learn a variety of skills including general trade math, reading blueprints, setting up and operating machining systems, precision measuring, and tool maintenance.
People can enroll in individual courses or take each of the five courses offered to complete the micro-credential. The courses will be offered as follows:
- Workplace Communications: Mondays and Wednesdays from Sept. 9 to Sept. 18;
