CCC Faculty Receive SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence

Four faculty members at Cayuga Community College were honored at Wednesday’s commencement with the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence.

The annual award recognizes the dedication and achievements of SUNY faculty and staff while highlighting SUNY’s commitment to classroom instruction, intellectual drive, and support for local communities. Awards can be given for Faculty Service, Librarianship, Teaching, Professional and Classified Service, and Scholarship and Creative Activities.

“Our recipients of the 2024 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence demonstrate outstanding commitment to our students and our institution. They recognize Cayuga’s mission, and the important role they play in making our College an essential member of our Central New York community,” said Cayuga President Dr. Brian Durant. “On behalf of our faculty, staff and trustees at Cayuga Community College, I applaud our recipients for earning this well-deserved award.”

Daniel Ferens has received the award in Adjunct Teaching. Ferens, a US Air Force veteran, joined the college in 2011, teaching business and computer science courses, incorporating new technologies in his lessons. He was an essential member of the college’s Mission Vision, and Values Review Taskforce. He also has helped to facilitate opportunities for students to provide feedback on CCC’s planning and mission. Ferens received a Master of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado and a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr Terry Kupp received her award for Excellence in Faculty Service. She is a professor and director of the Learning Commons-Academic Support. Since 2012, She has led Cayuga’s academic support services since 2012. From assisting admissions to coordinating CCC’s electronic and information technology accessibility efforts, her work has been integral to the college. She has also served as the co-chair of the college’s Middles States Self Study Steering Committee.

Kupp earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University in 2019, a Master of Science from Syracuse University, and a Bachelor of the Arts from Smith College.

Dr Michael Pacelli received his award for Excellence in Teaching. Pacelli, a CCC alumnus, began working for the college in 2002. He leads courses in biology, chemistry, genetics, viticulture & enology, and zoology.

He earned a doctorate in Environmental Science in 1996 from SUNY ESF and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Le Moyne College.

Glenn Warner received the Excellence in Classified Service Award. A building maintenance mechanic, Warner started at Cayuga as a custodian, becoming a mechanic in 2018. He performs building repairs and maintenance work as well as supervises a number of workers.

Warner has served with the King Ferry Fire Department since 1983.
