Nearly $3,000 is coming to help Cayuga County veterans.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has donated $2,750 to the Cayuga County Veteran Service Agency for its Veterans Support Fund. Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Agency Director Kevin Swab Said the fund is used to help veterans in need as well as support veteran-related causes.

“A while ago we helped a veteran; he had an emergency where his furnace went down and we were able to help pay for the furnace,” Sawb said. “We also use that fund to buy markers for gravesites… It’s to support veterans in need and support veteran causes as they arise.”

The money was donated as part of the sheriff’s office’s participation in the No Shave November initiative.

Swab added that he is incredibly thankful to the sheriff’s office for its contribution.

Sheriff Brian Schenck told Finger Lakes News Radio he’s incredibly proud of the men and women of his office.

“I am proud of the men and women of our Sheriff’s Office that continually go above and beyond to serve our community.  The participating male members of our agency each paid $50.00 to put down their razors for a few months and support this initiative.  Participating females were authorized to make a donation of $50.00 and have a streak of color in their hair or nail polish of any color.”

If you’d like to donate to the Veterans Support Fund, you can contact the agency at 315-253-1281.
