The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across the country for the DEA’s “National Drug Take Back Day” next week.
Deputies will be at Terry’s Food Mart on South Street in Cato from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 25th, collecting unused or expired prescription medications for safe disposal. Sheriff Brian Schenck says events like these play an important role in keeping communities safe.
“We don’t want this, especially painkillers and dangerous medication, prescription medication, falling into the wrong hands, and we safely dispose of it,” said Sheriff Schenck. “We keep that out of our waterways. We don’t recommend putting those down the drain or flushing them down the toilet. We destroy them in a safe way that keeps our environment safe and keeps them out of the wrong hands.”
The Auburn Police Department will also be collecting unused or expired prescription medications at the Wegmans on Loop Road from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
