Cayuga County plans to adopt a .gov domain name.
The county legislature’s Government Operations Committee advanced a resolution authorizing the legislature chair to apply for the cayugacountyny.gov domain name.
The resolution states the .gov domain “signifies the legitimacy of a website as being affiliated with the U.S. government” and minimizes the risk of users being misled about the government organization’s source and purpose.
The change from its current address, cayugacounty.us, is to comply with state regulations that require Board of Elections websites to utilize a .gov address. Since the board is integrated into the county’s website, the whole website will be changed.
New York has set a deadline of August 2024 for the change to take place.
