SHARE NOW

11 suspected overdoses were reported last month in Cayuga County, according to data provided by the county’s overdose dashboard.

This means March saw two fewer overdoses than February and three fewer compared to March 2023. None of last month’s reported overdoses were fatal with the county only seeing one fatal overdose so far this year.

72.7% of March’s suspected overdoses occurred within Auburn’s city limits, 18.2% are believed to have involved opioids, and 36.4% saw Narcan administered.

In the first three months of 2024, Cayuga County has seen 36 suspected overdoses. This is a slight decrease from the 38 seen in the first quarter of 2023 but a massive decrease from the 77 seen during the same time in 2021.

Annually, suspected overdoses have been decreasing in the county. The dashboard’s tracking goes back to 2020 when 208 suspected overdoses were reported. Peaking in 2021 with 278 overdoses, that number declined to 227 in 2022 and 163 in 2023.
