Cayuga County has a new attorney. Following the resignation of Chris Palermo on Sunday, the Cayuga County Legislature appointed Fred Westphal as attorney at a special meeting Tuesday.
Westphal has more than three decades of experience working in the county’s attorney’s office starting in 1989. He was appointed the first full-time county attorney in 2004 before resigning in 2018 and being replaced by Palermo.
Westphal’s term runs through the end of 2027
