The man elected to be Cayuga County’s next clerk has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
Just four days after winning the November election, Brian Scanlan struck a parked car on Fairway Drive in Owasco and left the scene. The victim’s vehicle sustained significant damage and was a total loss.
Scanlan was sentenced to the maximum fine of $250, community service, and must complete a defensive driving course.
The owner of the home where the accident happened tells The Citizen he has hired a private investigation firm to look into what Scanlan was doing before the accident. Joe Camardo says the County’s District Attorney’s Office will not investigate the accident but he intends to pursue civil action against Scanlan.
