The Auburn man who caused the fatal overdose of a friend last Halloween has been sentenced.
According to the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office, 34-year-old Matthew Carnicelli sold a bundle of fentanyl-laced heroin to the victim last Halloween, despite knowing they were on medication and had an increased risk of death, causing a fatal overdose.
The next day, he was found with over 1/8oz of fentanyl during a search of his home. He acknowledged possessing the drug with the intent to sell it.
Carnicelli was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Jon Budelmann to 3.5-7 years in prison for manslaughter and 7 years imprisonment followed by 3 years post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, both felonies.
