The Aurora Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating the success of its First Annual Golf Tournament.

The department announced that the tournament, held early last month at the Wells College Golf Club, raised over $13,000 to help the department replace its current 2002 ambulance. The department is grateful for all those who participated, donated prizes, or became sponsors.

Due to the event’s success, the department added that it is already planning next year’s event.

Sarah Homick, the department’s public information officer, previously told Finger Lakes News Radio that it’s time to replace the aging vehicle.

“Every ambulance we’ve ever owned has been purchased through donations from the community… We’re starting to see some things that need to be fixed on [the current ambulance], and we’re keeping up with all the upgrades, but it’s time to purchase a new one so we can all be safe and have the most proper tools for the jobs we need to do.”

The all-volunteer service provides fire, rescue, and emergency services to the community free of charge.
