Auburn City Council will vote Thursday to change city zoning in relation to marijuana.
In 2022, Council added sections to the zoning ordinance to address permissible cannabis use; however, the New York State Office of Cannabis Management has since created its own rules and regulations. The new ordinance will change the zoning code to comply with the state.
Currently, on-site consumption or retail dispensaries are not allowed within 500 ft of a school, nursery, daycare, playground public library, or municipal park and within 200 ft of a house of worship. Under the proposed changes, the 500 ft rule would only apply to buildings used exclusively as a school and the 200 ft rule would apply to buildings used exclusively as a house of worship.
It will also let cannabis retailers open downtown.
