Three Cayuga County women have sued the city of Auburn, saying they developed brain tumors due to the city’s alleged failure to keep its drinking water safe from harmful algal blooms in Owasco Lake.
The Citizen reports the lawsuit in Cayuga County Supreme Court, claims the city’s “negligent, reckless and careless” failure to provide them safe drinking water caused them to develop fast-growing and/or cancerous brain tumors. They are seeking an unspecified amount of damages for pain, suffering, medical expenses and loss of livelihood.
The city has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, that will be heard May 20th.
One of the women died last month at the age of 41.
