Two Auburn Enlarged City School District students have been named winners in the inaugural New York State Donate Life Month Student Art Contest.
Over 100 submissions were received from students across the state with winners being chosen in four categories based on grade level. The categories were 4th-5th Grade, 6th-8th Grade, 9th-10th Grade, and 11th-12th Grade. Donate Life’s Donation Advisory Council, made up of transplant recipients and their families, judged the submissions based on their creativity, visual impact, artistic merit, and originality.
Owasco Elementary 5th grader, Christian Salemi, won in the 4th-5th grade category while Alayna Warren, a junior at Auburn High, won in the 11th-12th grade category.
The other two winners were Ava Walia, a 6th grader at South Woods Middle School in Syosset on Long Island, and Kyler Senay-Johnson, a 9th grader at Broadway Academy in Elmira.
All four were recognized last week at the organization’s annual Legislative Education Event in Albany and received $100 gift cards as a prize.
Donate Life NYS seeks to increase organ, eye, and tissue donation in the state, ensuring those in need can get necessary transplants.
