Emerson Brown, a senior at Auburn High School, has been named the 2024 recipient of the Ruth and Charles B. Goldman Memorial Scholarship. She will receive $1,000 toward his first year of college studies.

Emerson is the daughter of Beth Brown Saville and Joseph Saville. She plans to matriculate this fall at Penn State University.

The scholarship, named in memory of two lifelong Auburnians, is designated for a graduating senior at AHS who has demonstrated a significant interest in the public affairs of the community, the nation and/or the world. This is the 17th year of the award.

Emerson was recognized for her concerted public advocacy work in front of the New York State legislature to address funding inequities that impact the financial support of Auburn’s public schools, as well as her role this school year as the student representative on the board of education.

Danielle Wood, vice president of the school board, endorsed Emerson for the scholarship when she commented on the student’s role on the governing board. “She comes prepared with a smile and provides the board with updates on the past and upcoming events at Auburn High School. She continues to impress me with her maturity, outstanding work ethic, and all of the sports and extracurricular activities she juggles.”

The Goldman scholarship, which is awarded annually, is funded by family members and friends of Ruth and Charles Goldman. The scholarship has been presented at AHS since 2007.
