The Auburn Enlarged City School District has unveiled its proposed budget for the 2024-2025 school year.
Coming in at $104,404,172 the budget represents a 4.1% increase over the 2023-2024 budget and comes with a 1.99% tax levy increase.
Staffing changes in the budget include a net increase of 17 positions. The district claims these positions, coupled with federal stimulus monies, will allow it to provide more focused hands-on science and technology instruction to elementary students, better ensure students are performing well in reading and math, and build a music production room, among other benefits.
Creating a finalized budget was hampered by the state legislature and the governor’s inability to pass a state budget by the April 1 deadline as the district did not know how much Foundation Aid it would receive. The Foundation Aid for the district has remained the same.
If the proposed budget is voted down, the school board will have to decide on holding another vote on the same budget or a revised budget. Under state law, if the budget fails a second time, the district would need to adopt a contingency budget.
A public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled for 7:00p on May 14 at the Auburn High School Library. The budget vote, as well as school board elections, will take place on May 21.
More information on the proposed budget can be found on the district’s website.
