The Auburn Police Department could soon become a state-accredited law enforcement agency.
It was announced in September that, after years of planning and implementation, the department has completed changes to its policies to meet accreditation standards.
The Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Program is a voluntary program from the Office of Public Safety that looks to improve an agency’s effectiveness, efficiency, and professionalism while fostering public confidence in law enforcement.
APD expects to find out if they’ve made the cut in December.
Nearby agencies with accredidation include Canandaigua, Geneva, and Waterloo Police Departments along with Onondaga, Wayne, and Yates County Sheriffs’ Offices.
