Auburn Police Chief Plans January Retirement

SHARE NOW

After more than 25 years with the Auburn Police Department, Police Chief James Slayton is ready to retire.

His last day on the job will be January 20. City manager Jeff Dygert told The Citizen the city is grateful Slayton’s retirement date gives officials time to find a new chief.

Slayton has served as the department’s chief since 2001. He began his career as an officer in January 1998.

The Auburn Civil Service Commission has been reaching out to Auburn police who are qualified for the role and are on the city’s civil service list. Dygert said he hopes to hear from the commission this week about which officers are interested in the position.

The city will try to name a new chief before January 20.
