Auburn Intends to Become a Pro-Housing Community.
At Thursday’s City Council Meeting, Mayor Jimmy Giannettino shared a letter with the council being sent to Governor Kathy Hochul announcing the city’s intent to participate in the governor’s Pro-Housing Communities Initiative. Giannettino said at the meeting that the designation is a necessary step to be eligible for certain state funding.
“The executive budget expands upon the governor’s Pro-Housing Communities Initiative by making the pro-housing designation a requirement to receive certain discretionary funding, including through the DRI, NY Forward, the Regional Council Capital Fund, capital projects from the Market NY program, and the NY Mainstreet program,” Giannettino said.”
Under the governor’s proposed budget, pro-housing communities will receive priority consideration for up to $650 million in state discretionary funds. Additional details on the program will be available after the state’s executive budget is passed.
