Auburn is offering new free winter programming.
The City of Auburn and the Auburn Enlarged City School District are offering broomball lessons and games at the Casey Park Ice Rink. Attendees will learn the basics of the sport and have the opportunity to play the game.
Broomball is played on ice or snow. Similar to hockey, the sport sees teams of six use a broom or broomlike paddle to hit a ball, roughly the size of a coconut, into a goal. Instead of skates though, players wear rubber-soled shoes.
The program is open to those 15 and up. Attendees must wear boots and bring their own helmets with a back and chin strap. Bicycle helmets are not allowed.
Lessons will run for five Sundays this winter at the 150 North Division Street rink: January 28, February 4, 11, and 25, and March 3. All lessons will be from 1:00-2:30p.
