Auburn Man Gets Max Sentence for 2019 Murder

SHARE NOW

The Auburn man convicted of a 2019 murder within the city will spend the next 25 years to life behind bars.

According to Cayuga County District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci, Gage Ashley was sentenced Thursday morning to 25 years to life in prison by Judge Thomas Leone after being convicted of murder by a jury in March. He was further sentenced to two 15-year determinate sentences plus five years of post-release supervision for his Attempted Robbery and Criminal Possession of a Weapon convictions, the maximum sentences allowed by law.

As the crimes were committed at the same time, the sentences will run concurrently.

On March 15, Ashley was convicted for his role in the 2019 killing of Joshua Poole at his 8 Delevan Street home during a botched robbery.

Ashley was originally convicted in 2021; however, that conviction was overturned nearly 18 months later after it was found that one of the members of the grand jury that indicted him was ineligible to serve on said jury due to a previous criminal conviction.

Back in February, he turned down a plea deal that would have seen him serve 21 years to life in prison, leading to the second trial.

Ashley wasn’t the only one accused of being involved in the murder. Lucciano Spagnola pled guilty in 2021 to murder when he admitted to having fired a shotgun at him during the robbery. Tyree Anglin also pled guilty to manslaughter for his role in the murder.
