The Old Wheeler bell atop Auburn’s Memorial City Hall will chime six times Monday morning as part of a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the events of September 11, 2001.
The bell will first ring at 8:46a to start the ceremony. Members of the city’s fire, police, and ambulance departments will be on hand to place a wreath at the 9/11 memorial on the south lawn of City Hall.
Following the ceremony, the bell will then be rung at the following times:
- 9:03a: When hijackers crashed into South Tower 2
- 9:37a: When hijackers crashed into the Pentagon
- 9:59a: When the South Tower collapsed
- 10:03: When passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 attempted to seize control of the plane from hijackers, causing them to crash the plane into an empty field in Pennsylvania.
- 10:28a: When North Tower 1 collapsed
The public is invited to attend the ceremony and is asked to arrive outside City Hall by 8:40a.
