Auburn City Council got a look at the proposed 2024-2025 Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant Program.
At Thursday’s City Council meeting, the Council received a presentation by Senior Planner Renee Jensen with the city’s Department of Planning and Economic Development.
Speaking on FLX Morning, City Clerk Chuck Mason gave an overview of how the money will be spent if approved. He said human service programs such as Cayuga Counseling, the Auburn Rescue Mission, and the SCAT Van, will receive funding for the services they provide for the community. Money will also go to home repair and home ownership programs. Sidewalk work is planned for Owasco, Fulton, and Walnut Streets.
Plans are already underway to revamp the Wall Street Playground, with the project’s first phase anticipated to begin either late summer or early fall.
Mason also stated that community input is key to creating the annual plan with over 200 people responding to an online survey sent out by the city.
“The entire plan is shaped on the public input that was received,” Mason said.
Two community meetings were held last November. A public comment period ran from December 28- January 26.
Two public hearings were held as well – one on November 28 and the other on January 25. Due to a misprint in the legal notice for the second public hearing, a final public hearing will take place at the upcoming City Council meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 1. The Council will then vote on whether or not to adopt the plan.
Auburn expects to receive approximately $850,000 from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development program.
