The Auburn Fire Department hopes a FEMA grant will allow for more community outreach and education about fire safety.
City Council voted Thursday night to authorize the department to apply for a $43,016.00 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant. The money would be used to provide more public educational outreach campaigns. The campaigns would include organizing quarterly community events. These events would fire safety education bike helmet safety, child car seat installation, and giveaways in conjunction with the Auburn Police Department.
The department would also work with schools, churches, and other community organizations to engage in safety discussions. In schools, firefighters would work to incorporate fire safety education into school curricula and similar efforts such as fire drills and hands-on activities with students.
Media engagement is another key component of the outreach campaign. The department plans to utilize radio, television, and social media to engage with the public and provide practical fire safety tips.
If selected, the department would need to match the grant with $2,150.80 from its operating budget.
