The City of Auburn’s fire department and ambulance service are seeking federal funding to replace aging vehicles.
The Auburn Fire Department seeks to apply for $581,687.10 through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to replace its 1993 pumper. The city’s ambulance service is seeking $237,946.50 from the same program to replace a 2012 ambulance.
Both groups cite maintenance costs and a lack of replacement parts as the need to replace the aging vehicles.
If awarded, the grants would cover 90% of the purchase costs meaning the city would need to provide $64,631.90 and $26,438.50 for the pumper and ambulance respectively.
City Council will vote at its Thursday meeting to authorize each agency to apply for the grants.
Applications are due on December 20 and 2,000 projects will be provided funding through the program.
