The City of Auburn could strike a deal with the Auburn Correctional Facility to lease city-owned parking spaces in exchange for access to the prison’s shooting range.
City Council will vote Thursday on a resolution to lease 18 city-owned parking spaces in front of the prison for correctional staff use. In exchange, Auburn Police Officers will be able to use the Auburn Correctional Facility’s firing range in Sennett for required firearms training throughout the year.
In a council memorandum, City Comptroller May Beth Leeson said the loss of parking revenue is offset by cost and time savings gained by allowing police officers to use the Auburn Correctional Facility range.
If approved, the lease would be valid from March 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027, with the option to renew.
