Auburn Community Hospital Unveils New State-of-the-Art PET/CT Scanner

SHARE NOW

Auburn Community Hospital celebrated a major milestone with the grand opening of its new PET/CT scanner, made possible by a $2 million federal grant secured through U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Hospital President and CEO Scott Berlucchi praised Schumer’s support, calling the scanner a life-saving investment that expands access to advanced diagnostic care for Cayuga County residents.

The GE PET/CT scanner provides high-resolution 3D images used to detect and monitor cancer, offering more precise and timely diagnoses. Radiology Chair Dr. Jubin Jacob says the machine uses the lowest radiation dose in the region and significantly reduces wait times—often allowing for same-week appointments.

Senator Schumer, in a statement delivered by his regional director, said expanding rural access to quality health care remains a top priority.

With the new scanner now on-site, patients no longer need to travel long distances for PET scans. Auburn Community Hospital’s team says the addition enhances cancer care by allowing quicker results and collaborative treatment—all under one roof.
