Another man has announced he’s running for Cayuga Court Judge.

Ben Susman, an Auburn attorney, has announced his candidacy for Cayuga County Court Judge. The county court judge presides over family court, criminal court, and civil (supreme) court.

In his announcement, Susman said his campaign is focused on “ensuring that the Cayuga County Court remains efficient, prepared, and accessible for every person who appears before it.” Additionally, he believes his experience as an attorney has prepared him for the various courts under the judge’s purview. He added that his campaign will focus on three core principles:

  1. Fairness for Every Family
  2. Integrity in Every Judicial Decision
  3. Safety and Stability for Our Community

“Our County Court deals with families facing loss, difficult decisions, and life-changing transitions,” Susman said. “I’m running because I believe that in moments of uncertainty, a Judge should be a steady presence—bringing clarity, stability, and a sense of safety when people need it most.”

Susman previously ran for Surrogate Court Judge in 2021, losing to John Budelmann. Returning to the campaign trail in 2026, he believes his expanded experience and renewed focus on the demands facing the courts will help him achieve victory.

Aside from his legal experience, Susman, a father and advocate for children and families, is heavily involved in his community. He serves on several boards and organizations, such as the Booker T Washington Center, the Auburn Education Foundation, ABC Cayuga Playspace, and Nick’s Ride for Friends. He also coaches youth lacrosse.

Earlier this month, Chief Assistant District Attorney Chris Valdina announced his candidacy for the position.
