As the FIngerlakes heads into the Fall harvesting season, drivers are reminded to share the road and be aware of slow-moving farm vehicles.
Frank Clarke with Cayuga County Cornell Cooperative Extension was a recent guest on FLX Morning with Ted Baker. While on the program, he said everybody wants to get home safely.
“We want everyone to get home safe, to get to work safely. This time of the year ag accidents are far more likely to be deadly than a regular car accident so we really just want everyone to be safe during this time of the year when harvesting is happening.”
Drivers are urged to use caution when driving behind farm equipment and not to pass them until it’s safe and legal to do so. Clarke also urges patience when behind a slow-moving farm vehicle.
While the Share the Road campaign runs year-round, there is a special focus on highlighting it during the spring and fall when farmers are out planting and harvesting their crops.
