The first Cayuga County celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act was held Wednesday morning in Auburn.
Members of ARISE CNY joined officials and members of the public at the Equal Rights Heritage Center to commemorate the 34th anniversary of President George HW Bush signing the legislation that prohibits discrimination based on disability.
Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Douglass said that while this is the first such celebration happening in Cayuga County, ARISE hopes to turn it into an annual event.
“The ADA affected a lot of change within our communities so this is our way of celebrating the work that we’ve done along the way and continue to do going forward.”
ARISE CNY works in Cayuga, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego, and Seneca Counties to promote the full inclusion of those with disabilities in their communities.
