A weekend fundraiser seeks to make one local theater more accessible.
Auburn Public Theater will hold its annual fundraiser this Saturday; however, this year’s rendition will be for a special cause. Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Dominic Gambaiani with APT said proceeds raised from the event will go toward the installation of an assistive listening system at the venue’s Main Stage, making it more accessible to those with hearing issues.
“[This fundraiser] gives people a direct way to support our goal which is to make theatre and the arts accessible to everybody.”
According to Gambaini, the system will allow people to wirelessly connect their hearing devices to the Main Stage’s sound system, allowing them to hear clearly, regardless of where in the audience they are sitting.
APT has set a goal of raising $4,000 to install the system. Gambaiani added that, if the theater can raise more than that, it will look into adding assistive listening systems to the venue’s other spaces like the cinema, Stage Right, or the soon-to-be-unveiled Owasco Room.
Those attending the Swing into Spring fundraiser will be treated to live music from The Stock Market Swing Band, food from Scratch Farmhouse Catering, an open bar, swing lessons, dancing, and a swing documentary in the cinema. The event runs from 6:00-9:00p at the theater. For ticket information, click here.
Additionally, Gambaiani there is a raffle going on to support the assistive listening system which will be drawn at the vent. For information on purchasing raffle tickets, call 315-253-6669, email auburnpublictheater.org, or visit Cafe 108.
