Amid Concerns, School Board Mulls Strengthening Phone Policy

SHARE NOW

The Auburn School Board is concerned about the increasing use of cell phones by students while at school.

To address this, the board will hold a public hearing next week to get input on proposed changes to the district’s cell phone policy in order to strengthen it.

“Members of the school board have been increasingly concerned with the impact that cell phone use in school has had on students’ mental health and ability to learn. We’re looking for public input on how to best address these issues heading into the next school year,” said School Board President Ian Phillips.

The board adds that, while current policy prohibits cellphone use except under certain circumstances, it is difficult to uniformly enforce.

The public hearing will be held at 5 o’clock Tuesday evening at the Harriet Tubman Administration Building.
