Another Republican has announced her campaign to represent Cayuga and parts of Onondaga County in the state senate.
Fanny Villarreal has announced she is running for the 48th state senate seat, currently held by Democrat Rachel May.
Originally from Peru, Villarreal moved to Syracuse in 1991 and became a US citizen. Since 2013, she has been the executive director of the YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County. She is also on the boards of Excellus BCBS of CNY and HomeHeadquarters Inc.
Last February, Caleb Slater announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for the role, setting up a showdown between the two.
New York’s 48th State Senate District consists of all of Cayuga County and the City of Syracuse and the Towns of Elbridge, Fabius, LaFayette, Lysander, Marcellus, Onondaga, Pompey, Skaneateles, Spafford, Tully, and Van Buren in Onondaga County.
