CANANDAIGUA – Community members are invited to Ferris Hills at West Lake on Friday, May 10, for a presentation called “Aging & Engaging: Benefits of Social Connection.”
Held in the independent living community’s Rayburn Hall at 3 p.m., the presentation will be given by Kim Van Orden, PhD. A clinical psychologist and an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Van Orden is the principal investigator of The HOPE Lab (Helping Older People Engage) and co-director of the Rochester Roybal Center for Social Ties and Aging Research.
In this presentation, Van Orden will describe reasons why attending to one’s “social health” is important and social connection is a form of medicine. She will discuss evidence-based strategies to increase quantity and quality of social connections. She will also share resources for audience members to take home, including tip sheets and places to learn more about topics discussed.
An affiliate of UR Medicine Thompson Health, Ferris Hills at West Lake is located on Peg Rayburn Drive in Canandaigua, with the campus accessed via either West Lake Road (County Road 16) or Middle Cheshire Road.
No registration is necessary for the May 10 program but for more information, call 585-393-0410.
