Step into one of America’s oldest and most iconic traditions – the town hall meeting, a practice that began in the 1630s and helped shape the nation. These lively gatherings brought neighbors together to debate taxes, schools, land use, and the future of their communities.

Now it’s your turn to experience that spirit firsthand. Inspired by this year’s Community Read, join us for an engaging, interactive event where you’ll listen to and share multiple viewpoints on the American Revolution. After the discussion, you’ll have the chance to cast your own vote on whether Geneva should join the fight for independence. The program is free and open to the public.

The 1776 Mock Town Hall is part of Geneva Read’s 2026 Community Read. The Community Read book is “A People’s History of the American Revolution” by Ray Raphael. The book brings the American Revolution to life by spotlighting the powerful, often overlooked stories of everyday people – women, Native Americans, African Americans, and others whose voices shaped the nation’s fight for freedom.
