The St. Peter’s Community Arts Academy (Teen) Choir will present a Pre-Tour Concert before they embark on their tour to the UK during the President’s Week break. The concert will be on February 10th at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of St. Peter’s Church, 149 Genesee Street, Geneva. Listen to the energetic and youthful sounds that this 22-person choir will present in renowned churches and cathedrals in England and Scotland. They will present various sacred and secular works, including spirituals, Broadway show tunes, and works by composers such as John Rutter, Elaine Hagenberg, Alan Menken, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The choir will be directed by Wendra Trowbridge and accompanied by Dr. MaryAnn Hamilton and Jered Slusser on percussion.
This year’s tour will be the 7th tour the choir program has done in the UK, the first being in 1999. It will be a special one as it will be the last where Father Jim and Sue Adams will travel as they will be retiring in June of this year. Forty-three years ago, when Father Jim Adams arrived in Geneva at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, he dreamed of starting The St. Peter’s Choir Program. He dreamed that St. Peter’s Church would have a robust choir program, with a teen choir trained to a high enough level, letting them travel and sing in some of the most beautiful cathedrals in England. With much hard work and support, Jim and Sue Adams made this dream a reality several times. In the case of each tour, the upcoming one included, it has been the first time that many choir teens and chaperones have traveled “across the pond.” The experience has been life-changing for individuals, and many alumni of the program report it as a pivotal experience in their junior and senior high school years.
St. Peter’s Community Senior (Teen) Choir is excited to share its program with the greater Geneva community before they go. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are greatly appreciated.
