The Finger Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce held its July Business After Hours Networking Mixer at Spotted Duck, located on Route 54 in Penn Yan. This event was part of the Chamber’s 2025 Business After Hours Season Pass Program and was coordinated with Sam Solomon, Owner of Spotted Duck. Guests were able to enjoy the famed custard, meet the owner, explore the property, and learn about the business. Solomon spoke about his journey in taking over ownership of Spotted Duck in 2020 and what it takes to run such a unique business.
Being the only farm-to-cone Duck Egg frozen custard stand in the entire country, Spotted Duck has created a name for themselves among both locals and travelers. Starting in 2010 as a small organic grocery store on Main Street in Penn Yan, the business has grown and transitioned into the custard stand many know and love today. Spotted Duck has become a renowned favorite and earned the title of “Best Ice Cream Stand in Upstate New York” with their unique use of duck eggs—approximately 60,000 in a year—creative flavors, local ingredients, and friendly staff. Soloman has been working on growing the business further by exploring the possibility of wholesale licensing and opening a guest house right next to Spotted Duck. Whether it’s stopping by to grab a quick scoop, special-ordering a custom flavor, or requesting catering for a special event, Spotted Duck—along with their team (and the ducks!)—will be there for you.
The FLX Chamber’s next Business After Hours Mixer will take place on Wednesday, August 13th, at Geneva On The Lake, a historic property that has fulfilled many purposes throughout its over 100-year history. Geneva On The Lake is located at 1001 Lochland Road, Route 14 South, in Geneva. Spaces are limited. The cost to attend Business After Hours is $10 for Members and $20 for non-members, unless individuals have purchased a BAH Season Pass. This event is included for all 2025 Season Pass Holders, but reservations are still required. Business After Hours are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 4-6 PM unless otherwise noted and are open to the public, but hosting is one of the promotional opportunities and benefits that is only offered to qualified members who have been customers for at least two years.
