The Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing (MSWSPN) has opened a new cohort for its full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program starting in January 2025. Applications are due by January 3, and classes will begin on January 30.
In addition, the $50 application fee will be waved during the month of October in support of the NYS Higher Education Services Corporation’s College Application Month Campaign.
MSWSPN has been ranked as one of the Best Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) programs in New York, according to PracticalNursing.org, where it was rated number four out of 58 LPN schools in the state.
MSWSPN offers a program that is beneficial for learners seeking a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Students attend classes during the day, Monday through Friday, for ten months. This is a 1,080 clock-hour program, and upon graduation, students receive a Certificate of Practical Nursing and are fully prepared to take the NCLEX exam for licensure.
In the program, students attend classes and begin participating in clinical rotations during the first semester. This allows for the immediate application of knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom and laboratory by caring for actual patients. Observational experiences may take place in long-term care, medical-surgical units, and ventilator units.
Located on the campus of Geneva General Hospital, MSWSPN is one of only three hospital-based nursing programs in New York State and was founded in 1956. Since then, it has graduated over 1,800 nurses.
UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health offers a Tuition Buy Back program that provides eligible Finger Lakes Health employees in job categories including Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Registered Nurses (RNs to BSNs) and Medical Technologists with assistance in repaying student loan debt.
There is program support for educational advancement from Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurses (RN) and LPNs to RNs, with all costs covered for employees who commit to a two-year service period at one of the organization’s long-term care facilities. This initiative aims to support career growth among nursing staff while ensuring continuity of care in long-term care settings. These initiatives underscore Finger Lakes Health’s commitment to nurturing talent, fostering career progression, and maintaining high standards of healthcare excellence.
