Cornell Cooperative Extension announces Maple Syrup Workshops set for Cayuga & Schuyler Counties

 Wednesday, October 16, 5:30pm – 8:00pm at Cayuga Community College, Auburn

 Wednesday, October 23, 5:30pm – 8:00 pm at Schuyler County Human Resources Center, Montour Falls

Learn how to tap trees and make maple syrup at this workshop with Cornell Maple Program staff, offered from 5:30-8:00pm on Wednesday 10/16 in Auburn and again on Wednesday 10/23 in Montour Falls. Interested attendees may choose either date and location, each is intended for backyard-beginners or as a refresher for amateur maple producers.

Both sessions of “How to Make Maple Syrup” will be led by Aaron R. Wightman, Senior Extension Associate, New York State Maple Specialist, and Co-Director of the Cornell Maple Program. Topics covered will include how to identify maple trees and a review the process to make maple syrup including tapping trees, collecting sap, and processing sap into syrup, along with learning how to access the many educational resources available through the Cornell Maple Program. The educational program will be followed by time for questions and discussion.

The first “How to Make Maple Syrup” workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 16th from 5:30-8:00pm at Cayuga Community College, 197 Franklin Street, Student Lounge room M214, in Auburn NY 13021. Current Cayuga Community College students may attend free of charge at this location and date only and must register to attend.

The “How to Make Maple Syrup” workshop will be offered again on Wednesday, October 23rd from 5:30-8:00pm at the Schuyler County Human Services Complex, 323 Owego Street, Room 120, in Montour Falls NY 14865.

Cost to attend “How to Make Maple Syrup” is $13/person and includes cheese pizza before the workshop for those who register in advance.
