Forty pounds of ziti, gallons of marinara and hundreds of meatballs, a basket raffle and 50/50, plus live music from two local bands added up to a fun evening for the more than 250 attendees at the Rock for Kidneys event at Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge 2397 on Saturday, January 11.
The fundraiser raised more than $3500 for UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health’s Dialysis Center at Geneva General Hospital.
Mike Rossetti, event organizer and the son of a former Dialysis Center patient, organized the event with help from his fellow Lodge members. His band, Tenth Avenue Acoustic, started the night with tributes to Bruce Springsteen and other classic rock icons. Geneva favorites, Rockin’ Boots, followed, with dancers taking to the floor.
“It was so great to see so many people come out to support the Dialysis Center,” says Rossetti. “The team there helped my Dad, and having the care available here, close to home, for other patients means so much to me and my family.”
“It was great fun for a great cause,” says Kim Ilacqua, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Health Foundation, who thanked the organizers and attendees in person at the event. “We are so grateful for the support from everyone who donated their time to organize the event, everyone who came, and to the businesses which donated items for the raffle baskets. It was a true community effort!”
The Dialysis Center is located behind Geneva General Hospital adjacent to the Marion S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing and Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing and Health Sciences and offers outpatient both morning and afternoon treatment options.
UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health provides services to all in our community who need it, regardless of ability to pay.
