The Finger Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce held its October Business After Hours Networking Mixer at the Gearan Center for The Performing Arts at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. The Chamber worked with Katie Flowers, Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning, who coordinated and sponsored the event. The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning represents learning through service, and producing students who are civically engaged and graduates who are active, global citizens.
Located at 299 Pulteney Street in Geneva, The Gearan Center for the Performing Arts was completed in 2016. The 65,000-square-foot facility brings together music, dance, theatre, media, and society in a unified academic space for the first time in HWS history. During the event, Katie Flowers spoke about her role with the Colleges and what Community Engagement and Service Learning programs offer, before introducing and featuring the various department heads that were present with tables set up around the room to meet with guests that attended the event. Special thanks were made to the team at Conference Services and Sodexo who did an outstanding job of catering the event. Stephanie Yearsley, Director of Conference Services spoke about the various services offered, such as catering special events of all sizes including outside rentals and banquets. Miranda Odell, Chamber President spoke about the importance of the long-standing relationship with HWS while thanking Flowers for the colleges’ hospitality and generosity. After the event, students offered campus tours to attendees.
The next Business After Hours Mixer will be Wednesday, November 13 from 4-6 PM and will feature a train ride on the Finger Lakes Railway. Reservations are strictly required to attend as seating on train cars is limited. The deadline for RSVPs is November 11. Please email [email protected] to confirm individual reservations. The cost to attend Business After Hours is $10 for Members and $20 for non-members unless individuals have purchased a BAH Season Pass. Business After Hours are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 4-6 PM unless otherwise noted and are open to the public, but hosting is one of the promotional opportunities and benefits that is only offered to members.
