FLCC Announces Veterans Events

Finger Lakes Community College will host a series of events to honor veterans, starting with the Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11.
The ceremony runs from 1 to 2 p.m. in the main campus auditorium, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. The event is free and open to the public.
The keynote speaker is Indra Sandal, chief of innovation for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Terrance Dominguez-Hover of Bristol, president of the Student Corporation, will be master of ceremonies. A past president of the Student Veterans Organization, he was an Army specialist in the Fourth Infantry Division, Field Artillery and deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in 2016.

The event also features remarks by FLCC President Robert Nye, a retired Army colonel, and Laura Ortiz, provost and vice president of academic and student affairs. The Canandaigua American Legion Post 256 Honor Guard will post and retire the colors. FLCC student Jonathan Carbone will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America.”
The event will be broadcast live on the College’s Finger Lakes Television network (Roku, a 24/7 web stream at fingerlakestv.org/live, Spectrum cable channel 1304 in the western Finger Lakes, the Cablecast app for Apple and Android) and the FLCC YouTube account.
Online talk: Medal of Honor recipient
On Thursday, Nov. 14, the College will host an online talk by Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Allen Lynch. He will share his Vietnam wartime experiences as part of the History, Culture and Diversity series organized by Professor Robert Brown. The talk runs from 8 to 9 p.m. Viewers may join by videoconference or the FLCC YouTube channel. Details are on the FLCC events calendar at events.flcc.edu.
Veterans Dinner
On Friday, Nov. 15, the general public is invited to join the Veterans Dinner at the FLCC main campus to honor all who serve the public, including military, law enforcement and emergency responders.
The event begins with a reception in the Student Center at 5:30 p.m. Dinner in the cafe begins shortly after 6 p.m., followed by dancing. Tickets are $35 for veterans and $40 for others.
