The Finger Lakes Health College of Nursing and Health Sciences has appointed Shelly Talbott, RN, BSN and Laura Van Niel to the Board of Trustees.
Shelly Talbott, RN, BSN currently works for the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine (Urgent Care) and the Penfield Central School District as Registered Nurse.
A graduate of Rush-Henrietta Senior High School, Henrietta, NY, Talbott earned her undergraduate degree in 1999 at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. She did graduate studies at the University of Rochester focusing on family practice.
Talbott volunteered for the Henrietta Volunteer Ambulance as an EMT-D from 1997-2005 and also served on the Board of Directors for a short time.
She is a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Penfield NY and a mother to four children.
Laura Van Niel of Seneca Falls is employed by the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES as the New Vision Medical Careers instructor at Geneva General Hospital. She had the position from September 1995 through June of 2003 and returned to the position in September 2007. In the interim, she was the Health Professions & Fellowship administrator at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva.
A graduate of Ramsey High School, Ramsey, NJ, Van Niel earned her undergraduate degree from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY, and did her graduate studies at Utah State University, Logan, UT.
VanNiel served on the Finger Lakes Health Foundation Board of Directors for 9 years, serving as chair for the last three. She volunteers at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge doing ornithology surveys. She is a former patient and family advocate committee member for UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health.
She has been awarded the Distinguished Teacher Honor through Rochester Institute of Technology in 2024 and 2020 and received the Touching the Future Award from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2016.
She has a daughter, Danika.
