Members of the 5th Grade Student Council at Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elementary in Seneca Falls teamed up with staff at Huntington Living Center to create and lead an activities program that left lasting memories for both students and residents.
Partnerships like this one play a vital role in helping Huntington Living Center continue to thrive while maintaining strong community connections.
In December, the students participated in a holiday tree donation event alongside the Bonafiglia Family Foundation. Inspired to do more, they returned on a spring afternoon in April to spend time with residents, pairing up to play a variety of classic board games such as NAME SOME GAMES.
As student council member Grace shared, “I loved it. The ladies I partnered with were so sweet. We are grateful and happy to have had that experience.”
The students’ smiles and energy were contagious. Residents were equally enthusiastic, enjoying the interaction, laughter, and companionship.
“We are so thankful to the students in the 5th Grade Student Council for visiting and playing games with our residents,” said Bethany Calkins, Activities Supervisor at Huntington Living Center. “It is our mission to foster community involvement here at Huntington Living Center to benefit both our residents and the wider community.”
Fostering leadership and community service are core objectives of the 5th Grade Student Council.
“This experience not only enriched the residents’ day, but gave our Student Council members valuable insight into the power of service and community,” said Student Council advisor and teacher Anthony Noone. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Bethany and her staff for giving our group the opportunity to plan and lead this activity as part of the residents’ daily programming. It was a wonderful experience for everyone involved and brought so much joy, laughter, and connection to the residents. I couldn’t be more proud of the students’ patience, kindness, and generosity.”
