It’s finally spring and area duffers are eagerly warming up for golf season. Again, this year, they are invited to put all that time on the greens toward a good cause: Golfers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the 108 Holes for Health Challenge, the annual virtual, season-long outing benefiting UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health.
What started as an in-person, one-day fundraiser nearly ten years ago has evolved, going virtual in 2020. The Challenge lasts the entire summer and allows golfers to play when and where they want. Every swing of the club contributes to a greater mission—supporting vital healthcare services in our community.
Players sign up to participate for just a $10 donation. The challenge: complete 108 holes – or 6 full rounds – between June 15 and September 15. When players turn in all of their scorecards, regardless of the actual score, they will be eligible to win one of three great prizes – including a $500 Wegmans gift card. Players can register online at https://www.flhealth.org/make-a-donation/player-registration.
New this year: mini-golf counts! Seneca Lake Resorts’ Putt & Play is the official 108 Holes for Health Mini-Golf Host course! That means even the youngest golfers can get in on the fun.
“Whether you are playing a casual round with friends and family or working on lowering that handicap, it’s a great way to get outdoors, get some exercise and enjoy these precious summer days,” says Mary Sue Dehn, Finger Lakes Health Foundation Director of Development. “At the same time, you are helping Finger Lakes Health meet its mission to promote the health and well-being of the diverse communities it serves.”
Proceeds from this year’s 108 Holes for Health Challenge will help fund the purchase of new equipment at Finger Lakes Health’s two hospitals, Geneva General Hospital and Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan, as well as health care programs.
Avid golfer Michael Gleason of Penn Yan, a courier at Finger Lakes Health, has participated in the 108 Holes challenge for several years. “I am going to play, so I am happy to play and support Finger Lakes Health and the great care we provide, particularly to raise money for Soldiers and Sailors Hospital,” he says, “It’s a fun way to give back!”
Sponsorships starting at just $100 are still available. Sponsors receive recognition on Finger Lakes Health social media sites and website and, depending on the level, on cart/bag tags, flyers and golf course signage throughout the summer. Go to flhealth.org/make-a-donation/2025-sponsorhip-opportunities for details.
Golf clubs and individual courses are also invited to become official Challenge hosts. Information is at flhealth.org/make-a-donation/become-host-course.
“We are so grateful to the players and the sponsors who have supported this unique idea in the past and are excited to get more players involved this year,” adds Dehn. “If you’re going to golf anyway, why not play for a good cause?”
Thank you to this year’s 108 Holes for Health Sponsors for their support!
