The New York State Senate recognized the York Golden Knights girls varsity volleyball team for its historic championship season during a visit to the State Capitol.
State Sen. Pam Helming welcomed the team to Albany, where players were honored on the Senate floor for winning the 2025 NYSPHSAA Class D State Championship — the first state title in program history.
The Golden Knights secured the championship with a straight-set victory over defending champion Candor, capping off a season marked by resilience and team chemistry.
“After falling short in the sectional finals twice, this team came back stronger, more focused, and ready to make history,” Helming said. “What they accomplished this season is a testament to their hard work, their belief in one another, and the leadership they showed every step of the way.”
York entered the season with just two returning starters and one senior after graduating nine players the year before. What appeared to be a rebuilding year instead turned into a championship run.
Players and coaches credited the team’s close bond and shared mindset for their success, building camaraderie through team traditions and a message centered on confidence and preparation.
Helming recognized the following players: Madalena Balisciano, Jordan Ray, Bailey Orman, Erin Knapp, Jaelyn “JJ” Kane, Bree Parsons, Fiona Grant, Madison Ezard, Kylee Koronas, Leah Cuozzo, Sylvianna Heineman and CC Biondo.
The team is coached by Kaitlin Kolb, with assistants Mikayla Johnson, Lonni Carroll, Beth Niedermaier and Steven Carroll. School officials, including Athletic Director Kurt Schneider and Principal Charlie Passarell, were also acknowledged.
“This team showed what is possible when you put in the work, support one another, and never give up,” Helming said. “Their success is a source of pride for the entire York community.”
