After a strong pair of seasons on the basketball court, the Keuka College basketball teams had five players honored for their efforts off the court, being named Academic All-District by College Sports Communicators.
Repeating the honor for Keuka College were Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) from the women’s team and Ty LaBarge (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) from the men’s team.
Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) earned her second Academic All-District honor, having previously received it in her sophomore year.
Rounding out the honorees were sophomores Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) and Quinn VanKerkhove (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit).
Janea Hamilton-Brown started 22 games for the Wolves and set new career highs for minutes played and points in her junior season. A Writing and Communication Arts major, Hamilton-Brown has posted a 3.81 cumulative grade point average over her career and earned multiple Empire 8 President’s List honors.
Cotter closed out her career with Keuka College by scoring a career-best 293 points and collecting 102 rebounds this past season. It was her second Academic All-District honor, and she has earned Empire 8 President’s List honors multiple times.
Rounding out the women’s basketball honorees was sophomore Lillian Mullen. An Occupational Therapy major with a 3.89 cumulative grade point average, Mullen received Academic All-District recognition in her first season of eligibility. She started every game for the Wolves, averaging 11.3 points per game and shooting just under 84% from the free-throw line.
From the men’s basketball team, Ty LaBarge earned his second Academic All-District honor. He set career highs in scoring and rebounds while helping the Wolves win the Empire 8 Championship. He also earned the Empire 8 Torchbearer Award for men’s basketball, recognizing the highest cumulative grade point average among players in the championship game.
Like Mullen, Quinn VanKerkhove earned Academic All-District honors in his first season of eligibility. VanKerkhove played in every game for Keuka, shooting 36.7% from three-point range and providing a spark for the offense.
To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least sophomores, maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50, and compete in at least 90% of their team’s games.
