A Rochester man is facing multiple charges after an early morning police pursuit ended in a crash near the New York State Thruway in Ontario County.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on State Route 332 in the Town of Farmington around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities say the driver failed to comply and fled at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle failed to navigate a curve while exiting Route 332 onto the Thruway, striking a guardrail and becoming disabled.

Deputies identified the driver as Michael Romell, 30, of Rochester. Investigators determined Romell was on parole and had revoked driving privileges in New York.

A passenger in the front seat, identified as Karina Prusakowski, 30, of Farmington, was also in the vehicle.

Romell was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. He was transported to the Ontario County Jail to await centralized arraignment.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
