A Rochester man was arrested March 18 after a traffic stop led New York State Police to discover a loaded firearm in his vehicle.
Troopers from SP Rochester say they observed a 2014 Jeep Cherokee near the Inner Loop and Allen Street around 5:48 p.m. with the driver not wearing a seatbelt and the side windows tinted. The vehicle was stopped on State Street.
The operator, identified as 31-year-old Taykwane Timothy Taylor, was found to have multiple suspensions on his New York State driving privileges, prompting the vehicle to be impounded. During an inventory search prior to impound, troopers located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic “ghost gun” under the driver’s seat. The firearm contained one round in the chamber and a magazine loaded with nine additional rounds.
Taylor was taken into custody and charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (C felony) – loaded firearm outside home/business
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (D felony) – prior conviction
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree (A misdemeanor) – possession of a ghost gun
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd degree (misdemeanor)
- Vehicle and traffic infractions
The firearm, ammunition, and magazine were seized as evidence. Taylor was transported to the Monroe County Jail for centralized arraignment.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
