Keuka Men’s Lax Outlasts Elmira College

The Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse team defeated Elmira College 16-12 on Saturday afternoon at home.

Harrison Root (Jefferson, N.J. / Jefferson Township) led Keuka College (4-2) with six goals. Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) added four goals and an assist, while Austin Holsclaw (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) finished with three goals and three assists. Aiden Nice (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) chipped in a goal and three assists, and Jaxson Tucker (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) made 20 saves in goal for the Wolves.

Keuka College 16 vs. Elmira College 12

The Green and Gold started quickly, building a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes on goals by Nikolas Gitsis (North Chili, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili) and a pair from Harrison Root. After Elmira answered, Tre Lloyd scored on the man-up and Austin Holsclaw added a late first-quarter goal as the Wolves carried a 5-3 lead after 15 minutes.

Elmira rallied in the second quarter and twice pulled even, including at 5-5 early in the frame. The Wolves responded with goals from Cam Hovater (Camillus, N.Y. / West Genesee) and Austin Holsclaw, and later got another from Tre Lloyd to stay in front. The Soaring Eagles closed the gap to 8-7 before halftime, keeping the pressure on despite Keuka College never surrendering the lead.

The decisive stretch came in the third quarter. The Wolves scored six times in the period, including a pair of man-up goals from Harrison Root in the opening 1:16. After Elmira trimmed the margin to one at 10-9, the Wolves answered with four straight goals from Tre Lloyd, Root, and Holsclaw to open up a 14-9 advantage heading to the fourth.

In the final quarter, Aiden Nice and Harrison Root scored to push the lead to 16-10. Elmira found two late goals, but Tucker and the Keuka College defense held firm down the stretch to secure the non-conference victory.
