Cayuga Community College continued its strong start to the 2026 season Saturday with a pair of home wins against #14 Herkimer College.

Two strong games from the lineup and solid pitching performances from the team’s rotation gave the Spartans wins of 7-6 and 6-2 over the Generals. Cayuga is now 10-4 on the season and 2-0 in Region III East Division play.

The Generals held an early 4-0 lead in the opener before Cayuga responded with three runs in the third inning on Jeremy Recio’s bases-loaded double. The Spartans took the lead in the fourth on Lewis Huang’s two-run single, but Herkimer scored twice in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Cayuga responded with a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth to score the winning runs. Jakson Ross and Recio singled before Tyler Black singled home both runners for the tying and go-ahead runs.

Recio and Eathen Yoon had two hits in the opener, with Recio scoring once and driving in three runs. Black and Huang finished with two RBI, and Ross scored twice. Dylan Gordon threw five-plus innings, striking out four and scattering seven hits. Jancarlos Rodriguez pitched Cayuga out of a jam in the sixth inning and threw a scoreless seventh to earn the win, striking out all four batters he faced in the contest.

Cayuga controlled the second game from the first pitch, scoring twice in the bottom of the first on a bases-loaded forceout and a Herkimer error. The Spartans added another in the second on Black’s RBI double and one more in the third on Huang’s RBI single. Cayuga scored its final two runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Black and a passed ball.

Six runs were more than enough for Cayuga’s rotation, which saw sophomores Kyle Peryer, Isaac Allison and Ashtyn Traugott-Knoll shut down the Generals’ lineup. The trio surrendered just five singles while striking out three. Black went four-for-four with two doubles and two RBI, Ross had two hits and scored twice, and Tristan Sierra had two hits.

Cayuga hosts Mid-State Athletic Conference opponent Onondaga Community College on Tuesday, March 24. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
